This Is (Almost) 40: A To Do List

So I have failed epically at updating you guys on my progress toward self betterment in anticipation of the big 4-0 at the end of the year. But that doesn't mean that I haven't been actually partaking in the steps toward betterment (well at least some of them). I'm planning a big, epic brain dump on what I've accomplished (and what I haven't) in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, I wanted to share a little "manifesto" that my brilliant health Goddess Leslie gave me at our final session together. ("Final" being further evidence of my major delinquency in reporting here on the blog).

Like most really smart, true things, the manifesto has been floating around a bit. This is likely not the first time you've seen this advice -- it wasn't the first time I'd seen it. And (again, like most smart, true things), it's certainly nothing earth shattering. It's obvious. But Leslie gave it to me at the exact time I needed to re-read it and, most important, was ready to actually adhere to it (she's magical like that).

I thought I'd share it here with you guys in the off chance that you might also be in particular need of a little nudge toward letting go, mellowing out, slowing down, and generally not making everything 100% harder than it needs to be. Here goes...

speak less, listen more
say less, do more
worry less, work more
ride less, walk more
eat less, chew more
start less, finish more
correct less, prevent more
blame less, forgive more
wrestle less, embrace more
compete less, cooperate more
take less, give more
have less, be more
frown less, laugh more

I was just thinking about this the other day - remembering your recounting of January, February, etc. Probably because my husband turns forty on Sunday and I'm not far behind him.

On any given day you could ask which one of those lines applies to someone most. For today, I'd have to say "start less, finish more". I've been feeling frustrated lately with the number of things I want to do, but also the enormous amount of things I haven't completed yet (but have started and am tripping over - ugh.) So that's the one that spoke to me today.

I have been waiting (im)patiently for an update! I've been considering dry brushing and I know you mentioned that you started it. Looking forward to hearing more of what's working for you!
