The Girlie's Outtakes

As a working mom, it's incredibly important to me that the girlies get to really see and understand what I do each day when I'm away from them. I want them to view my job as something we can chat about together in the same way that we talk about their school day. I want them to feel like they are really involved in that aspect of my life.

I'm incredibly lucky that I work for an really family friendly company. Folks bring their kids up to the office a lot. It's a really lovely thing. On several occasions, the girlies have had a chance to sit next to me in my little cube while I silently slog away at my computer, and despite the decided lack of glamor, they are pretty entranced by the whole situation.

So you can imagine how their minds have been completely blown by the shoots we've been doing the past couple of weeks. They've tagged along with me on a couple and were totally over the moon...helping out, and documenting outtakes on my iPhone. Having them around definitely makes the long hours way, way more fun.

This is so important. How wonderful that you work in such child friendly place. Are those cute silver shoes your kids'? If so can I ask where they are from? They seem so comfortable. My little one would love them.

Good for you for having them see you work, and what it is you do. I was an interior designer before and long after my daughter was born (about 30 years ago) and she still remembers being about 3-4 and learning to separate fabric sample into piles to return based on the fabric houses (recognizable logos), trips in a stroller to the Pacific Design Center too. I felt guilty for so long about how hard I had worked when she was young, but her recalling these memories with such joy and fondness, and telling me about how proud she was/is has erased all of that worry. Such great photos.
