(Some of these pics are from an Arboretum concert we attended last week, but it's what I wish we had done this weekend, so I'm including for good measure.)
Despite all my talk of "busy", I want you guys to know that I don't view being busy as a badge of honor. In fact, I try with every fiber of my being to celebrate not being busy...to hold up the quiet, mellow moments as essential and good. I aspire to more of the quiet, mellow moments.
A reader sent me a link to this great NYT post, The Busy Trap, that I think about often. It's true, a lot of busy is self-imposed. We could make our lives easier, I really believe that. But then there are times when busy is unavoidable. My best friend Achlee, for example, has three littles, is in the midst of launching her own business (including a building renovation that's she's tackling DIY style with her husband), and is caring for her sick, elderly grandmother. She's (really, really) busy, and it's not by choice. She's also my reality check (for the record) when I start to agonize over the perfect placement of an object in my house. Just want you guys to know I'm keeping things in perspective.
So want to know what I did this weekend? Well, I agonized over the perfect placement of the objects in my house... How was that intro for some justification?
We also marveled at the rainy, breezy (read: cooler) weather, had a magical dinner outside at our dear friends' house on Saturday, went to a couple of fun kiddo b-day parties, and ordered a lot of take out. It was busy, I'm not going to lie, but they won't all be like this. I'm sure of it.

What wedge sandals are you wearing in the 5th picture down? They look cute!
Thanks Phoebe. I snagged them at Urban Outfitters...they're v. comfortable!
Relish it. The busy and the quiet. It's all good and you need both to appreciate the other.
Your home, well, it always looks exquisite to me and I love every peek you give us!
We've got a bit of MiNTY goodness on OKL today and it made me think of you and your inimitable Joslyn style. Vintage, California cool, with a fabulous one-of-a-kind patina.
Where did you purchase that poster/ print from thats featured in your Home Depot renovation product? (its in the 6th picture down, and in the white frame). Also, you have some lovely knick-knacks, little pieces of pottery etc., whats your go to place for stuff like that?
Regardless, your blog is always a good read!
I love your fiddle leaf fig--I really want one for myself, but they're pretty difficult to find.
Jo -- they are tricky to find. If you call your local nursery, they might be able to order one for you.
I read the busy trap as well and it really brought home to me that being busy is actually not a good thing. Being productive and happy is. And it looks like you were pretty happy this weekend. Thanks for sharing!
