Some Scenes From The Weekend

By all accounts, it was quite the weekend-o-goodness...

On Friday, Bryan and I were lucky enough to have a date night extraordinaire, which included a leisurely dinner at Neighborhood Services followed by a Lyle Lovett concert and a pretty spectacular fireworks display at the "party on the bridge" celebrating the (almost) opening of our Calatrava. We capped off the night with a sleepover at a hotel. (Thanks mom and dad for hanging with the girlies so we could partake in our little staycation.) It was a rare but needed treat!

But wait, there's more...on Saturday my sister and sweet baby Josie flew in from California for a visit (the girlies are in love with Josie, beyond smitten...it's really pretty sweet), and we went to see my dad play at The Pearl with his new band (two consecutive nights of live music was making us feel far cooler than we actually are).

Sunday we took things down a notch with a leisurely visit to the museum where I spent a significant amount of time ogling that duo of Josef Albers paintings above. (And this is the part where I lose any shred of coolness I may have previously possessed) I think I had just as much fun staring at those Albers paintings as I did staying out late drinking gin and tonics and listening to live music.

I might be getting old. Just saying'...

Sounds like an absolute dream of a weekend. What fun.

In my previous life more than a decade ago, I was part of a team that hired Lyle Lovett and his big band to play at three different nonprofit concerts. It was insane. He is amazing and every time he would show up with a special guest musician that would blow everyone away. It was the most incredible few months of my professional life. This brings back some very special memories for sure.

sounds heavenly, even envious of the open toe wedges you could wear while we were in boots and hats here in Chicago.

When I was growing up we had a close family friend who wore unusual, modern, sometimes oriental, but always very elegant, necklaces. She used to tell my sister and I fabulous stories about her travels to far flung places (she was so far ahead of her time) and encouraged us to believe that anything is possible. (See the photos of her here - http://oa.anu.edu.au/obituary/langley-doreen-moira-13353). Sarah's gorgeous necklace reminded me of my friend's jewelry - understated but so very elegant – something we could do with more of in this world!

That makes you even cooler in my books!
