Some Scenes From The Weekend

yes, that's Millie's foot hanging out in the photo...nice.

beautiful handmade package given to me by the amazingly creative Rachel while at Alt. It was so stunning, I waited until I got home to open it...

After four full days of conversation and inspiration and learning at Alt Summit (I loved being part of a panel presentation with the amazing Victoria, Bri and Danielle), I was missing Bryan and the girlies fiercely, so once I landed on Saturday afternoon, we pretty much spent the rest of the weekend hunkering down and hanging out...

Audrey surprised me Sunday morning with breakfast in bed and a "coupon" (or in her words, a "cupon") for a family trip to the museum, which I promptly took her up on. Emboldened by the major stylistas at Alt (it was a sea of sartorial awesomeness friends, punctuated with red lips, bangs, and killer specs), I decided to smack on some red lipstick before our outing only to have the girlies beg me to take. it. off. in the car, as it made me look "too fancy and weird". After smudging it off with an errant baby wipe, Bryan looked over with a sort of relieved look on his face and confirmed that it did indeed make me look "all fancy and weird".*

Ahh, it's good to be home.

(* Which made me instantly think of my Alt roomie and dear friend Caitlin's story about her husband's hilarious response when she came out wearing a huge camel "cocoon" sweater one evening...Let's just say girls get dressed for other girls and leave it at that.)

p.s. -- Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the amazingly kind and supportive comments on my last post. You guys are truly the best readers and friends ever. More job details coming soon!

Oh, what a sweet weekend. I love that you raised your girls so that a trip to the museum is what they want. I adored meeting you at Alt, and you totally rocked that dress you posted about. Also, some day when I have a baby I better put my red lipstick on as they come out of the womb so they won't think it is fancy and weird. xo

What'd you think of the Manders show? Awesome? Scary? Wierd? Awesomely scary-wierd?

And Pete recently told me to take off lipstick too -- my failed attempt at blatant femininity.

And so glad you're home, btw.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one who gets flack for my lipstick trials. Excited for you about the new job! Living boldly is nice, yes?

Loved getting to spend time with you at Alt, and might I add that I was just thinking how lovely you looked w/ your red lips! For the record though, every time I slick on a bright lipstick, I feel very fancy, and very weird. :)

At least they thought you were fancy! So funny. I've been trying to wear lipstick but at 28, I still am pretty sure I look plain weird when I try.

I've tried to explain to my husband that girls dress for other girls...he just doesn't understand my red (or hot pink) lipstick, trapeze dresses, or sack-like tops that are soooo cool. My 2.5-yr old son, however, likes my bold lipsticks and nail polish!

I love the dichotomy of your weekend! To go from the glamour and buzz of Alt to the sweet family time at home...it's the perfect weekend!

I'm so incredibly happy I was able to meet you in person at Alt. You are the best, Joslyn.

And yes, Alt also inspired me to break out the red lipstick, but I always got it on my teeth. Dang. I totally did look fancy and weird.

I keep reading that everyone is wearing glasses now, which for some reason, I find so weird. Is everyone going the low maintenance route from wearing contacts or are they just for show? Being a four eyes gal myself, I constantly rip the glasses off when someone approaches with a camera. I guess now it's fashionable and I better upgrade to some cooler specs ;)

I was thinking how much I loved your red lip color in the photo and then giggled when I read the family reaction. I always want to wear the cool Gwen Stefani (maybe not that bold) red lip color, but then feel all fancy and weird when I do!!!

kids are so innocently honest. it is refreshing and scary at the same time. although my middle guy, benny, he always compliments my lips when I wear a bold color. he dishes out the best compliments!

wish I could have attended ALT, unfortunately my husband is traveling up a storm at the beginning of 2012. i must hold down the fort. next year I hope!

and yes, women dress for women 99% of the time ;)

It's very sweet that they knew just what would make mama happy (a museum, and more than 15 minutes to browse before stopping at the cafe or gift store, right?)

I had on purple tights and a navy dress the other day...when we pulled up to our destination I told everyone to go ahead without me and I'd catch up. My youngest said, "Oh, are you staying behind to take off those tights?"

Ha! It's still making me laugh!

A family trip to the museum? That little one of yours is brilliant if you ask me. It was so lovely meeting you at Alt. And like I said, if your daughter wants a pen pal to talk science and art with her, I'm your girl. I actually have something to send your way that I think she'd be interested in, but I need to let the dust settle in my life first.
