Pinterest is my Twitter...

A few of my latest pins: top image object and totem via pretty mommy, middle image via the fall of snow, bottom image via re-nest (the post it accompanies is pretty awesome too).

I am not so good at the Twitter. I try, I do, but you know I love me some words. A good "tweet" (in my estimation) is all about the pithiness. I am not so pithy; it's a lot of pressure. But I'm not giving up...

Pinterest on the other hand (which, yes, I realize is a completely different animal), is my thing... I regularly find myself obsessively scrolling through pinboards long after I should be asleep, all bleary-eyed and jonesin' for images like some sort of loveliness addict. It's a bad scene.

But here's the thing about Pinterest, like magic, one glance at someone's assembled pins can instantly reveal their aesthetic sensibility. It's sort of arresting how quick you can get a feel for what makes them tick. And, more often than not, a really inspired pin prompts me to comment and converse and do all those thing that are somehow so hard for me to pull-off on Twitter.

Where do you guys stand on this? Are you addicted to Twitter? Do you love Pinterest? Neither? Both? I'd love to know.

Have a fantastic weekend friends... and if you're in Dallas, for sure stop by the Pretty Mommy pop-up shop tonight at Little Bean. Christine and I have been busy unpacking boxes-o-goodness. The goods are insane!

I like Pinterest but it's super frustrating how many photos are on there uncredited. Many only link back to a blog or tumblr with no indication of the original source. I've been thinking about quitting it for this reason. It's such a bummer because there's some awesome stuff on there. But I get sad when I see something really cool but there's no source for it:(

The pop-up shop sounds awesome!! Have a great weekend!

rock on girl. pinterest is incredible.

twitter. . . still working on that one.

i agree the credit issue is major...i love that the photos link back to the source but when the source is just a tumblr that's a major problem.

good food for thought for sure!!

Oh - what did I do before Pinterest? I do love it for inspiration and also in that while I can get a feel for another's style instantly as you said, it has also helped me get a feel for my style in a way I hadn't before.

I'm so the same way! I can't seen to get addicted to twitter for some reason. It feels like conversations going on around me and not sure if I'm supposed to join in. I love the visually exciting-ness of Pinterest and I dont' think I even knew my style until I started pinning more!

just joined pinterest- it's totally addictive. some people are such geniuses. they come up with a pretty basic idea (online pinboards) and run with it. twitter, i don't really get. it's great for getting the scoop on things i guess, but not sure what to do with it myself.

I completely agree about how you can look at someone's collection of pins and get such a good sense of their style and/or likes. It's fascinating! And while I love Twitter too, I have to say Pinterest is my new obsession.

I'm addicted - I could spend all day pinning and re-pinning images. We may need to start some sort of pinterest-aholics group!

I'm the WORST at tweeting!!! Pinterest on the other hand...

Totally with you on this one. I'm on twitter, but only to follow a few people/bands/etc that are entertaining or interesting to me. I don't write much. It's a little strange to me. Pinterest I LOVE. I agree with Chelsea that the crediting is frustrating - it's frustrating to see uncredited pictures anywhere, but it's definitely magnified on Pinterest. I always try to include a photo credit with my pins, if I'm not pinning from the original source. If only everybody could do that... But it's so much fun! Loveliness and beauty everywhere...

I totally agree!! and I follow all your boards :)

In the same boat with the Pinterest addiction. I love, love, love Pinterest for a million different reasons.

I finally bit the bullet and joined Pinterest. I'm obsessed and am also up way too late at night looking at images and adding images. I can't get enough of it!

Great topic/conversation -- wonderful blog! I really understand where you are coming from with both twitter & pinterest. Pinterest is so satisfying -- immediate gratification. Twitter, on the other hand for me, takes some discipline. I've seen lots of tweets that seem to flow effortlessly from the writer -- mine require some thought... so it seems a bit too time consuming. I'm hanging there though. ;) Happy Friday!! I'm holding a giveaway over at my blog - barefoot in the orchard - come by and check it out if you get a chance. :)

i try to tweet and i'm just awkward - PINNING i'm a professional...but for some reason i call it "p interest" instead of "pin ter est"...which is awkward also...sigh...
i get annoyed by two things tho - 1.no credit and 2.the same things pinned over and over....but i love the organizational factor - i no longer have folders on my HD of inspiration cuz I just pin it! yay!!

No contest - Pinterest wins by a mile! You're right, twitter is a constant source of pithy comments-I am often amused, yet never inspired. Pinterest, now that's a different story! I cannot spend any time on Pinterest without coming away with a 100 different ideas on what I want to craft, knit, cook, decorate, wear, you name it!

It's so exciting to see how many creative people are out there. I find myself wanting to reach out and be friends with many of the people who post things that excite me. I often stop myself from commenting or writing to them, as I don't want to seem like a complete lunatic. LOL

Agreed on the Tumblr issue.

I haven't fallen into the world of Pinterest quite yet but I've definitely started tweeting more. I think of each tweet as a poem and I always try to do the EXACT character limit. No more (obviously), no less (personal challenge)! xo

Pinterest is my visual chocolate... I've discovered blogs by clicking through that I adore and have saved so many inspirations I'm not sure I will ever be able to try them all! Twitter, couldn't follow more than a day.
After following some "Pinners", I too want to meet some of these talented people. Maybe the meet ups will spur this and build real community from this addictive virtual one!
I do agree that some posts don't give the credit deserved, but sure the developers meant for posts to credit due to the click thru feature.
I do wish they would develop a Mood Board print feature though! I'd probably cover my walls like I did as a teen!

I love your blog and have been meaning to tell you so for a while!

Pinterest is my new obsession and it seems a bit more thoughtful to me (vs. Twitter). However, between Facebook, Twitter, blogging, reading blogs, Pinterest and feeling like I need to keep up with them all, it gets ridiculous. I have to remind myself to get outside and away from the computer!

Pinterest isn't just a plethora of inspiring images, but a great way to organize all the little separate aspects of life: kid style sources, cooking delights, work-related information, etc. I don't know what I'll do if I ever lose access to my account for some reason and all my findings go poof. It'd be devastating. Even the app is a great time killer when waiting in line or other dreadful spots. Better than angry birds, that's for sure.

oh my, for all the visually inspired, pinterest is it's own language. totally agree that you can tell someone's personality just by looking at their boards. you can especially tell if they have an eye for the original and the unique, rather than the mundane mass of pictures that somehow end up on the internet. i appreciate pinterest as a website for those who use it appropriately (to organize my projects/inspirations/design ideas/travel aspirations, fashion trends, etc.) but i supposed that's like any good thing which has the potential to be spoiled.

amy said...

You are always so right on with your topics... pinterest over twitter... most definitely!

Tamara said...

much agreed -- i'm never quite comfortable with the twitter format. but an image is worth a thousand words.

I love PInterest! For us visual folks, it's such an easy way to scan and find things, including clippings or inspiration. I feel that it does a much better job of crediting images than other sites. (And I dislike Tumblr for this reason and don't use it). It also helps me to visually see what things in fashion or design that I'm gravitating towards, as well as seeing others' tastes quickly as you said.

simple_giving said...

I like your post. :) I agree with all the lovely ladies who pin as well. I tweet regularly but usually about daily happenings...nothing serious. Pinning is quite the way to express ourselves visually. I've encouraged my friends to hop on ... most of them are mad at me now because it's all they want to do. :)

I love twitter because it's instant conversation & I have started a lot of fellow blogger relationships that way. I just started Pinterest - I've been reticent to start something I know will be completely addictive, haa-haa. But it's definitely a great source of inspiration for our upcoming wedding & fashion, home decor & life-living in general. How can you not like that...

kid collective said...

I catch my news on twitter and my visual inspiration on pinterest. I need the visual. It's an addiction.

kid collective said...

Oh and I agree with what Chelsea said. Pinterest drives me crazy when I can't find a source and Tumbrl is the worst at crediting sources.
