Scenes from The Weekend...

We spent the better part of the weekend "managing" the nuttiness I alluded to on Friday. Here goes...

So, we are in the process of getting a pool, which is not in and of itself nutty. It's messy and sort of major, but mostly it's exciting. We've been dreaming/saving/scheming for a pool since we moved to (hot!) Texas over a decade ago, and finally it's happening... We're thrilled, really. But (here's where it gets nutty) several months ago, we agreed to have our house on a little home tour.. It's in a few days, and we have a giant, gaping, muddy, (ugly) hole in our backyard. (The timing on the pool didn't exactly work out like we thought it would, but do these things ever?) And we have lots of windows.

But wait, there's more.

In an effort to sort of "mitigate the ugly" (and alleviate my pending freak-out), my sweet, sweet hubby started moving things around in the backyard last week -- big things, like rocks. And in the process, he tore his bicep and has to have surgery...tomorrow. Oh and we set-out on our annual beach vacation this Friday, which involves a 12 hour drive.

So all those things that had been on sweet hubby's to-do list this week-end in preparation for all this madness, well...moved over to mine (and there was a lot of calling in of the reserves -- friends and neighbors and random strangers on the street that we begged/roped in to help). I can honestly say I have never done more work in a single 48 hours than I did this weekend. Schlepping, hauling, planting, sweeping, cleaning, moving, polishing... It was crazy-town. But on the upside, my house has never been cleaner. Ever. So there's that!

Hope your weekend was slightly more relaxing than mine...then I can live vicariously through you guys... Happy Monday!

Wow, that looks amazing! You're incredible for taking it all on. I'm sure no one will notice the pool-in-progress with all the awesomeness you have going on. I hope your husband recovers soon and you get some time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Your house looks great, as always! Your poor husband. Didn't he need back surgery after getting ready for a previous home tour? He really goes the extra mile. Love the pillow in the 5th pic. Where did you find it?

Joslyn said...

Laura -- he did need surgery after the last home tour!!! Suffice to say, I've been banned from doing any more home tours ;-)

the pillow is from West Elm!

Now all those recent purchases make sense! We're also preparing for a home tour and it is completely nutty. I can't imagine throwing a wounded husband and new pool into it as well! Enjoy that vacation.

Read this post on your blog in a effort to cool my head...it made me laugh :) Not that misfortune is funny, but the irony of laugh is often something to look back at and smile. Good luck with the new pool. Thank you for the laugh. Love your blog.

So glad that you are getting a pool. With your girlies the ages they are, you will use it a lot.

The first thing I thought about when I read about the torn bicep was the back surgery. You guys need to pace yourself so that your body takes you through the long haul of life.

How about this beautiful weather in big D?

Joslyn,

I hope your husband is in a little less pain now. For what it's worth, your house looks beautiful. So chic but warm and welcoming too!

Take care,

Oh dear, a torn bicep! Oh dear indeed. Just keep your mind's eye focused on the pool, standing in the shade, having a margarita...the kiddies laughing...the hubby feeling better (maybe he will get a bionic bicep out of this! dude!) Deep breaths...deep breaths...I just gave a dinner party in out totally un-finished kitchen, it was like camping, and then our air broke (the oven had been on all day...) and it was just fine. So sending you my "just fine! wait, better than fine, Wonderful!" vibes. :) Have fun at the beach!!!
