Scenes from The (Long) Weekend
We celebrated Memorial Day with a bit of an "Americana" weekend…there were two cook-outs (prominently featuring ubiquitous holiday treats like burgers and watermelon and homemade cherry ice cream), some inflatable pool fun and, wait for it… a visit to the amusement park.
We’ve been promising to take Audrey to the amusement park all year and figured hey, how about we do it on a Saturday, during a holiday weekend, on the hottest day of the year. Yep, we’re pretty smart, Bryan and I.
So we proceeded to drop Millie at the grandparent's house and descend into hell. I’ll spare you the details, as I’ve decided to go with the whole “if you can’t say anything nice…” position here (so strike that whole “hell” remark above if you will.) I will concede that spending the day with Bryan and Audrey was really fantastic. Such a different dynamic when you have just one kiddo in tow. We need to remember to do this more with the girlies.
Just not at the amusement park…

great shots on teh roller coaster....candid excitement..love it!
Loved the "hell" comment. I couldn't agree more. At least you got it over with before July and August.
We had very similar weekends. We very much had an Americana theme going here is well, sans the trip to the amusement park. Saved that for next weekend.
The scars from last year's memorial day weekend trip to the park haven't yet healed.
that sounds fun! The hell comments is fabulous! Getting it out of the way now is a great idea! July and August are hell literally at those places! We had several terrible family trips to them as children! haha!

Ah, the amusement park can be hectic. You are brave for going on Saturday! Sounds like you enjoyed your weekend though!
Those teacups really bring me back to how much I loved Disneyland as a little girl! Those trips were so special. It looks like you all had a fun time at the amusement park :)
I love those photos, how fun!
We took our daughter to a party at our local fair this weekend, she couldn't get enough, I couldn't get enough either, I think we all went back to our childhood days and quiet ironically the happiest ones were my husband and I.
xo.
Oh dear! Probably the worst day of the year for an amusement park. But she looks like she loved it!
hi joslyn,
sorry to hear about the rough weekend. I was just wondering where your necklace is from in the picture of you on the roller coaster?
anon -- i'm actually wearing two necklaces in that photo.
One is a Helen Ficalora "A" charm (http://www.helenficalora.com/pg_AlphaCharms.asp)and the other is a little Elsa Peretti jade open heart (http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?sku=GRP00542&mcat=148206&cid=288187&fromGrid=1&search_params=s+5-p+10-c+288187-r+101287465+101297648-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+)
You've painted a fun-albeit slightly frightening-picture of your weekend. And the cherry ice cream sounds very intriguing... :)
Gorgeous pictures!
i don't even want to imagine how crowded it must have been. i'm picture lots of long lines with you shriveling up in the hot humid heat. but you know what? i'm sure Audrey loved every minute of it. She'll never forget her alone time at the amusement park. And that's gotta make it worth it, right?
Sweet photos!

That's sp sweet you took time out to spend the day with her alone. I love that.
Those roller coaster shots are classic. That's exactly what my little girl would look like! Total hysteria!

I bought the English version of the Eva Juliet poster to hang in my office. It's so lovely, isn't it?
