Let’s say (hypothetically of course) that you have a lovely and generous mother-in-law that loves nothing more than buying little frocks for her two granddaughters (for this story we’ll call them Millie and Audrey, ok?)
Now let’s say the mother-in-law was somehow tipped off (I’m not saying by whom) that there are loads of sweet Liberty of London dresses and whatnot currently gracing the racks at Target and that she might like to take a peek.
And then suppose that same (highly) generous and lovely mother-in-law took the recommended peek and proceeded to buy a slew of said sweet whatnots for your daughters. Would that be cheating?
I’m just wondering…totally hypothetically of course.
Otherwise it was a good week.
How did you guys do? We’re in the final stretch!

I had to abandon the online browsing last night to stave off the desire to shop through all of the spring collections that are popping up...
These are lovely...who wouldn't want to buy these for their grandaughters...smiles.
and yes! It's fine if other people shop for you/your daughters :) My boyfriend has graciously offered to support my pastry fetish every so often while I'm avoiding spending!
Ack! This Target/Liberty collaboration is definitely hard on the spending hiatus. I've been resisting even looking, but I keep seeing bits and pieces in blog posts.
Not cheating unless you give her a shopping list. Grandmothers cannot be controlled.
I spent almost $200 on the Liberty/Target collection.. I wish I would have tipped my mom off ;)
Hahaha, love your post. Happy week :)
I think it still most definitely counts as not spending. It wasn't *your* money! I spent too much on the liberty stuff at Target. It was adorable though.
absolutely acceptable!!
totally not cheating. and while we are on the subject of Liberty of London at Target.... why do they not have boy clothes? seriously.
my last day of the hiatus was monday and my re-cap will be posted tomorrow. or more my confessions will be posted tomorrow. :)

I was at Target last night and found myself picking the girls' Liberty of London dresses up off the rack...and I don't even have a daughter (or know anyone else who does)! They are too, too precious, definitely worth bending the rules for :)
I was at Target first thing Sunday morning and left with way too many Liberty of London pillows. They are fantastic!
Looking forward to Friday night!
If grandma, used her own money, it's not cheating. Those dresses look divine, I'm sure your girls will look adorable in them.
I've done well, only because I've been in bed with a bad flu, it has stopped me even looking at online shops as I've been feverish. Am thinking of extending another month as I was soooo bad this month.
Cheers

Def NOT cheating. And since I'm not on a hiatus I bought those adorable clothes of Liberty at Target for my own little girl. Who couldn't resist they are fabulous and at an incredible price.
Christine -- see that's why i can't go to target...way to tempting. I had to send her instead. sad.
see you friday ;-)xo
You've done so well so far, it's totally acceptable. These are so adorable that I'm tempted to get them despite the fact that I don't live in the US and don't have daughters or granddaughters to dress!!
Well done on the spending hiatus, I've joined in very quietly and feel like I could go on for maybe a month more.
i loved the little girlies clothes as well. much more than the women's dresses and tops.
we did well this week...other than buying our first house! i'm more than ok with that purchase though :)
oh definitely not cheating! they're so cute!
xo, tiffany
haha, love it. I got ellie that swimsuit and the sweet little romper.
lindsey -- yes that is an incredibly exciting purchase!
congratulations.

DEFINITELY NOT CHEATING!!!
I absolutely LOVED shopping at Liberty when I lived in London and am so excited to see the launch at Target. Too cool.
Way to go mom!!! xx
Very cool mother in law. I would consider that a gift. Definately not cheating.
The spring collections popping up on blogs, and in my inbox are killing me. It's all about willpower for me now going into the last few weeks! I am planning to clean out my closet this weekend, and hopefully find inspiration in the things I already own.
They are lovely. I got two for my daughter and am hoping her grandmother gets her more! Hehe
I borrowed the idea of your spending hiatus for Lent, I was very displeased with myself when I realised that the Liberty of London for Target collection was to be released at the half way point.
LOL! Grandmothers are the best. And it's hard to pass up dresses for little girls.
I bought the loveliest dress for my friend's daughter when we were in Paris. Since I have boys, I have to buy for others. ;)
I love those Liberty of London dresses! Enjoy. ;)
This is in no way cheating. This is CREATIVE SAVINGS. I do it all the time with my also very generous mother. After all, this was a time sensitive incident.
First, let me just say that you are on week 6??? That is amazing!! I'm only on day 18 and I've already cheated & I openly have advised everyone I know that I am still accepting gifts.
So, based on my standards - you are doing SUPER!!
I am going for a 2 month shopping hiatus, so we'll see :-)

You are a crack up :)
gifts aren't cheats!! (even if the giver was nudged in the general direction!)
I caved and bought Henry and Amelia's Easter outfits. but I figured that if I didn't do so now, they wouldn't be in the store by the time the hiatus is over (since Easter is only 3 days later). that, and they were too darn cute to leave the store without.
Other than that, I'm good!
Oh wait, I did buy a couple cookies at a bakery when we were out on a walk the other day. i was in the mood for something sweet, it was a gorgeous sunny day, and well, the bakery was right there. is that cheating? not sure.
it's the final countdown!
kristin -- cookies are definitely not cheating...otherwise i would have failed miserably one hour into the haitus ;-)
xoxo
