The weekend was equal parts lovely and mildly traumatic...
We visited Bryan's cousins at their magical ranch outside of Austin where we explored, searched for heart shaped rocks, hung out with cows and rode horses (my first time.)
That was the lovely part.
Then late Saturday afternoon Audrey fell and scraped up her elbow pretty bad...which luckily preoccupied her from the fact that she'd also hit her head on a rock, puncturing her scalp and setting off blood-fest 2010. A trip to the emergency room, a completely freaked out me and a staple in the scalp later, and all is good, but I swear friends, I'm suffering from some post-traumatic stress, as I'm totally off my game today.
I will say this (scalp puncture aside), I love spending time with Bryan and the girlies away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives...there's something about getting out of our routine to make everything a little bit better, slower, easier.
I need to somehow figure out how to work this magic at home.

Such sweet images with the horses. So sorry about the trauma! oh my goodness!! Staple in her scalp?? Glad you were able to get away. Looks like a lovely place.
ugh. i'm so bad at that mom part of it...i always faint and then the entire ER loses sight of the real patient. oy. i've GOT to work on this.
a kiss to a for being brave around blood and another to m for laughing her arse off next to that big brown beast! not a care in the world, that one...
oh man, those head wounds are the worst! glad she's fine and you're on the mend :(
What a gorgeous getaway!
I'm sorry to hear about the accident this weekend! Unfortunately my family has had a few head injuries as well, but we've ally gotten kind of used to it : P
Glad that you had a lovely get away this weekend. The weather in Texas was superb wasn't it?
ER visits are the very worst. And scalps? Well, they are pretty much all vascular, therefore the bleeding fest 2010. Not fun. Hope that the memory of the ER visit will take a back seat to your first ride on a horse.
Get out of dodge more often to set your weekends to a different pace. This is the time of year to do it.
I was at the ranch the weekend before you and I rode Dakota, too! Noah's had to get staples in his head twice. Ouch!
Poor Audrey!
I'm so glad to hear she is okay (and you're okay!)
Sometimes getting away is the best thing, isn't it?!
I was all happy looking at the moo cows and horseys and then I read the post! Such worry. Glad everything is right as rain.
poor girl! I'm so glad she is okay and I hope you get back on track too.
I'm so glad your daughter is okay!
Did you wear flipflops for to go horse back riding? Tennis shoes probably would have come in handy.
ann - LOL
no, I didn't wear my flip flops, but I thought about it ;-)
I have some little slip on mary jane things for my when I'm feeling athletic!
Poor little one...makes me cringe just reading "scalp staple" ~ my goodness Joslyn, kudos to you for being able to even function period today. I would still be passed out cold from the sight of blood!
Oh my Joslyn, you are doing so well. Two years ago when L was 2.5he broke a toe (hairline fracture) and he was at the stage whee they exagerate things and so we didn't realise how sore his big toe was. I was devastated when they had to put half his leg is a cast. It took me just as long (6 weeks) to get over the fact my poor baby had broken his toe.
I hope Audrey feels well soon.
Cheers

Great photos!! Sounds like a Lovely weekend (staples aside). Glad to hear it turned out alright. It's a part of life! All of us have a scar here or there with a story (and Mom heart attack) behind it.

Awwww... poor baby! Hopefully the good memories of the weekend will wipe out most of trauma for her.
ouch, that must have been really scary for you. I hope she gets better soon and that the lovely weekend will overwrite this accident.
the words staple and scalp should never go hand in hand. i'm wincing in horror along with you, my friend. sweet girl.
Such beautiful pictures. Wish your weekend could have been ALL lovely!
Ah, the blood and the emergency room. I'm so sorry you guys went through that. The photos are beautiful though.
Oh god! I am so sorry for all of the trauma you guys went through this weekend hun! I am so happy to hear all is well(besides the staple) and I hope you have a wonderful week! Your girls are so very sweet & adorable and the good part of the weekend seemed very good indeed....

-I'm so glad your daughter is okay!
Work From Home
Forgive me for being motherly here, but speaking of staples in scalps, please, please have your child wear a helmet around your horse. No matter how 'bombproof' or calm it seems, it only takes one thing to spook a horse, have them bolt blindly, and cause a severe injury or death to your little one or you. I have a horse of my own and even though she's a sweet, calm drafty thing, I wear my helmet no matter what.
xoxo
oh that trip to the emergency room sounds just awful. i am dreading those moments to come as a new mom. ugh! how do you put on that brave face for your kids when you really just want to cringe? yikes.
the photos are really lovely. ;)

that is excellent, wise advice. thank you!
Ouch! How not fun for anyone!
I totally agree with the getting outside as a family. I told my husband last time we went hiking that I think one way to stay connected with the family is the get away from it all together. This is coming from a not-naturally-a-roughing-it type of gal. I'll take one for the team though!
Beautiful pics!
oh no...poor sweet audrey, poor sweet momma. there is nothing harder than watching your baby hurt.
however, i have to say the rest of the weekend sounds dreamy...especially the riding horses, and heart-shaped rock parts...xo t
