I'm awfully fond of Valentine's Day. Not so much the forced expressions of love via pre-written greeting cards or braving a restaurant on the actual day, which is a bit of a nightmare...but the chance to create a little heartfelt token, to gift your beloved with something special, to surprise your girlies with heart shaped pancakes on valentine's morning...that I like.
This year, despite the spending hiatus, we'll still get little gifts for the girls, probably a couple of books + I always get a giant box of See's dark chocolate bordeaux for the entire family, (it's really the most amazing candy ever...)
Bryan asked me what I wanted the other day, and I requested a fantastic home cooked meal (he's an amazing cook) + he's going to finish glass "fronting" the cabinets in our kitchen (a project that's been on hold for almost a year) because there's really nothing more romantic than a little DIY, no?
If you're more fond of traditional gifts, here are a few lovelies I've spied of late.
clockwise from top: lovely ink+wit letterpress cards, love poems by Pablo Neruda, that amazing See's dark chocolate bordeaux, a sweet heart necklace from creatures of comfort...
bird & banner's lovely valentine card, New Orleans based Sucre's gorgeous and insanely delicous chocolates (we visted the shop during the holidays and it really is perfection...), Calypso's fun "LOVE" clutch, a swoon-worthy vintage inspired ring...

thanks for the inspiration!
I love heart day as well. It's just such a sweet, simple holiday. We always celebrated with a family breakfast.
Joselyn, you are right - See's Bordeaux's are the best best best. I'm a former Texan living in So. Cal, and I was just in See's today, and do you know, they have special Heart shaped large Bordeauxx for Valentines. Bought them for my hubby and girlies (also 6 and almost 3)!
Oh I love me some Valentine's day! Mostly cuz I like an excuse to buy myself a very, like super seriously luxurious box of chocolates, something very nice and special. YUM, oh and the boy and I totally ignore it otherwise.
What beautiful gifts!! It really gets me excited for Valentine's Day. I, like you, look forward to the smaller aspects of it rather than the big cheesy over-the-top gestures. I love that your whole family celebrates it! :) And yes, DIY is the most romantic thing :)
The bordeaux are the best! Just one problem...now I want some.
Agreed, See's chocolate is the best on V Day...my parents always get each of my boys a small box of their favorites and "Cupid" always brings them a book and perhaps a small toy or two. My husband and I agreed long ago to treat another day of the year as V Day so that we weren't pressured into dinner or gifts. We randomly choose days to surprise the other with coffee, flowers, a meal, etc. We love the fact that nobody's telling us when to celebrate and it's when we feel the other needs to hear/see it.
Anon -- i love that. i'm going to "borrow" it ;-)
I love heart day. Dark chocolate is my fave!
I better get some chocolate, cliche but I can never get enough!
i'm with you on valentines...but do love these little sweet gifts.
Oh a box of See's. That is the ultimate treat. I'm partial to the assorted nuts and chews.
I love See's milk bordeaux. Yum!!
I go back and forth about valentine's day. last year it passed me by, but this year i'm feeling positively inspired! gonna get my v-day craft on this weekend, i think, perhaps with some chocolate bordeaux to fuel my creativity...?
