- Made me incredibly, incredibly grateful for my husband -- I'm pretty quick to admit what a great husband, dad, partner Bryan is, but there's nothing like going it alone for a few days to raise that appreciation to new heights...
- Gave me a renewed awe for single parents (speaking of going it alone...) I mean seriously, how does anyone do this business of parenting alone. Heroes.
- Made me a smidge jealous that the most basic things like wrapping every. single. purchase. at the local toy store and the packaging on a little box of mints from the corner market are just so much cooler in Europe. I love the idea of making the smallest things feel special. Special should be for everyday, no?
So now that hubby is home, we're gearing up for a weekend of fun -- trying out a new pizza place tonight and heading to First Saturdays at the Nasher tomorrow morning...and just generally trying to make everything feel special ;-)
What fun things do you have planned?

Everything he brought home looks so wonderful! You're so right -- everyday things should be special!
Have a good weekend!
We're going to play country bumpkins at my bosses cottage in a tiny English village about an hour outside of London. Picking all the produce for dinner from a local farm, horse riding and fly fishing. I'm from California so these things are very special and fun to me. Hopefully I'll get some good pictures so I can blog about it. Cheers!
sweet little gifts!
I have friday off so I am enjoying the long weekend; gardening, hanging drapery and going out to see a band! yay! for the weekend!!

Oh, so agreed. We have nothing on the Europeans and Japanese when it comes to lovely and special packaging. Reminds me to handle even the small things with great care.
Yum... love Wilhelmina's (luckily we have a huge Dutch population in our city so these are easy to find... so simple and so good!)
such perfect treasures. love them!! we are going to do NOTHING!! looking forward to some quiet.
wow, these all look so great!!
We were in Holland this spring to see the tulips as well as the city of Amsterdam. I've officially named Holland as producing the best souvenirs EVER! Seriously, spent 100 euros on the cutest crap ever. . . the salesman even gave me a free clog bank. Didn't get a snow globe though. Seeing yours gave me a pang of jealously. Next time. Have a great weekend.
My hubby just got home too. Phew! We're taking the kids straight to the grandparents' for an overnight and then, aaaaaah. I too get frustrated thinking about how much cooler Europe is. Have fun! P.S. I'm wearing your "uniform" today. :)
It's so much fun to see what your husband brought home from my country! And yes, Wilhelmina peppermint is the best!
But having to admit.. I just might be the exception to being European and being good in wrapping gifts.. I've decided to call it "origami modern".
Ha...I think I know what store your husband was, it looks like the wrapping from one of my favourite stores in Den Haag 'roodkapje'( little red riding hood) could that be?
You nailed it, Erika. He thought it was the best toy store he'd ever seen, and the proprieter was incredibly helpful and sweet.
