"Go-To" Clothes

images from the source of Audrey's very favorite clothes... Peek Aren’t You Curious

Now that Audrey is largely selecting her own ensembles, I’ve noticed the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, in that she regularity gravitates toward a particular selection of “go-to clothes.”

I’ve pretty much extolled the virtues of a "uniform" ad nauseam in this space, but if you’re new to the blog, you may not know that I too am a big fan of “go-to clothes." I wish I was as creative and daring as Whitney and could pull together a wholly unique (and completely adorable) look every single day, but I’m a creature of habit (and I’m lazy), so I inevitably gravitate toward my Paige jeans and one of five or so tunics/short dresses that I combine with a couple of layered gold necklaces and a pair of wedges… Wham, bam…done.

Based on her wardrobe choices, if I had to classify Audrey’s “look”, I’d say it’s sort of a boho Punky Brewster...My A can seriously rock some color. Her “go-to” pieces consist of a pink embroidered cotton skirt, a paisley print "apron" top (seen here), a purple ethnic print skirt (seen here) and a green Mexican dress (seen here) + lots of tights.

The common thread in all these pieces is that they came from Amy’s genius, genius kid’s shop Peek Aren’t You Curious, which Audrey and I are both totally smitten with…

So…do you have go-to clothes? What’s your version of a uniform?

Lately it's been skinny jeans, flats and a shirt or sweater that somehow involves stripes. If I'm going even more casual (does it get much more casual before you're in pajamas?) I trade out the flats for my chucks.

For years my go-to uniform would be a dress and either a pair of sexy heels or boots. But since then my style has shifted somewhat and I've grown bored with my empire-waist dresses that tend to look a little too girly and frumpy, and I'm now favoring a more pared-down look. That usually means trousers or jeans with a soft tee, cardi, and a pair of flats. Some delicate gold jewelry--usually in the form of a ring or small earrings--and I'm out the door.

How wrong Emily Dickinson was! Hope is not "the thing with feathers". The thing with feathers has turned to be my nephew. I must take him to a specialist in Zurich.

Lately I've been living in a pair of slouchy boyfriend jeans and white keds sneakers. I have a viscose tees that I mix it up with, in wild colors like black, white, or black. ;)

My go-to?

A puffy down vest and converse...I love living in Colorado!

My go-to outfit (which I'm wearing now, since I rushed out of the apt this morning) is black flats, dark blue skinny jeans, an oversized striped oxford (sleeves rolled up), and a dark gray vest with gold buttons. And a few necklaces thrown on :)

My go-to is really pared down these days:

True Religion jeans (joey cut)
Black elbow sleeve tee from Target
Laceless converse (black or navy)

I wear this outfit or a similar version (white tee or tee layered with an Amy Tangerine sweatshirt) almost every day.

When I go out, it's a black top, jeans and my favorite knee-high black boots.

You'd never know I was in the beauty/fashion industry!

I have actually made an effort to break free of my usual "uniform" a teeny bit but in my 2 recent shopping trips I keep migrating toward more black tops and leaving stores frustrated and empty handed. Argh. I need a stylist! And a b-jillion dollars to start over!

Loved this post. Miss Audrey is clearly super cool.

My go to look is 7 Jeans, some sort of top and flats. Not terribly exciting. I'm trying to break out of my rut by injecting more color... no more black shirt purchases! (Well, maybe one or two!)

as we've discussed i think our little girls would have fun comparing wardrobe notes. and now my 2 year old is getting in on it too - i can't believe a person so small has such a strong opinion about what she'll leave the house in. oh dear!

lynne -- i think they must follow big sister's lead, as millie wants to wear all of audrey's clothes now...she walks around the house in giant t-shirts and dresses...it's a sight.

yes, i think our girls would be sartorial kindred spirits ;-)

I´m traveling around South America at the moment and am endlessly thankful for the latin habit of wearing the same blessed thing every day. Because then noone notices that the griga has been rocking flip flops, skinny jeans, a black tshirt and a big scarf for three weeks.

it is already dress season in new orleans so my go-to clothes would be a tunic dress that i can belt or wear loose, metallic flat sandals or wedges and ethnic jewelry. i also have a scarf stashed in my bag for aggressive air conditioning.

Most days it's a pair of seven "boyfriend" jeans I almost ebayed b/c they were a hair too big, a vintage tee stolen from my husband (I favor the 50/50 ones that get that great burnout look after a million washings), and orange tretorns or grey bensimons.

great post!

I wear the same few things over and over: two pretty patterned dresses with a cardi over them, some black and gray skirts - with a black T and a sweater over them (cold office year round), black tights in witner, bare legs in spring/summer, and flats. a favorite silver ring..and I'm good to go. Adore the idea of a uniform.

Am occasionally drawn to something quite unique, but then I picture a friend rolling their eyes going "there she is..wearing that butterfly - sequinned skirt... AGAIN!" and I nix the idea - sticking with black/gray/white/some color.
