I might have a smidge of a crush on Mark Bittman. I love his blog, his pantry tips, his culinary adventures in Spain… Then I heard a segment with him on NPR this morning, and that sealed the deal. So along with In Defense of Food (I have an crush on Michael Pollan as well), Bittman’s new book Food Matters is officially on my reading list this year.

First off, I love your blog. I come around every day as I sip my tea at my desk, as a treat. I also heard the same segment on NPR (which I also love as I sip my tea, in the car, on the way to work) and was instantly interested in his book. I have recently read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and have a new interest in finding out more about my food. I currently buy all organic produce, packaged food (cereals, applesauce, dairy) for my family but am interested in finding ways to help the planet as I purchase local foods. Any suggestions...oh, and we are on a new budge. Ugh. Makes things hard sometimes. Okay. End of novel. :)
I love Mark Bittman too. Did you see the cute photo of him in his tiny kitchen? Love.
I'm going to hear him speak tonight!
Kristen -- I wish i had suggestions...i'm where you are right now...trying to eat more organic. I think both bittman and pollan would say that local is as important (or maybe more important in some cases) than organic, and limit the meat. so that's what we're going to attempt to do.
Jenny -- LUCKY!
Oh, yes, I have his How to Cook Everything Vegetarian book -- my boyfriend gifted me with it. I am definitely NOT a cook, but this cookbook makes it incredibly easy to do everything from homemade lasagna to egg drop soup.
Plus, I just love that his name is Bittman. So appropriate.
Oh, I so agree! Smart, funny, sexy, loves to eat. What could be better?
You read my mind... crazy how often it happens!! xo
Funny I cut out that same soup recipe...hmmmmm....maybe we need to make that together for dinner. Yummy!! Although matt won't eat curry :(
I'm in the middle of The Omnivore's Dilemma book on tape, and I can't wait to get to In Defense of Food. Maybe we should start an online book club?
But to honor the spending hiatus I checked the book on tape out from my public library! Who knew they had stuff like that there!?
Oh, that dress!
I have a HUGE crush on him as well. A man who cooks and cares about the planet? Yes, please.
MARK BITTMAN IS THE BEST! his fourth of july article about picnic food was amazing and totally changed teh way we cook--easy foods, easy prep, so yummy!
hey, I was going to make this tonight!!!!! how cool.
michelle -- we're sharing a brain
xo
Ever since we started watching "On the Road Again" my husband and I have also become huge fans of Mark Bittman. I, of course, had to buy him the "how to cook everything" book for Christmas, and we're using it a lot! That show really made me like them all more... especially Gwynnie.
I just started reading your blog and this has sealed the deal! I love Mark Bittman so now I officially love your blog.
