So whoever said just give a kid a cardboard box and they’ll be happy (or something to that effect) was Totally. Right.
Late last week, Bryan whipped up a little “fort” out of a couple of giant cardboard boxes, and the girlies and I spent Sunday afternoon listening to Astrid Gilberto, munching on Halloween candy (bad mom) and beautifying the new “playhouse” (i.e. painting it pepto pink festooned with big white flowers.)
Highlight of the afternoon was when Audrey informed me out of the blue that she was having so much fun, "just you know, painting and chatting and stuff…”
My thoughts exactly.
Some notes about the photos:
- Please ignore my crazy Sarah Palin-esque “updo” and the fact that I’m wearing my pajamas over my jeans…
- But do take note of the black “dots” up Audrey’s left arm…funny story actually. Saturday afternoon Audrey and I cruised up to Michael’s to get our painting supplies, and engrossed in the soothing voice of Ira Glass, I completely ignored what was happening in the back seat. Audrey was chanting, “I’m a rock star, I’m a rock star, I’m a rock star”, while inking up her entire arm with a black pumpkin rubber stamp that she got in her treat bag at school on Friday… They were her tattoos apparently.
I’m in so much trouble with this kiddo friends…

giant boxes are brilliant. a new lady with fancy boxes moved in upstairs, and we were dying to snag some cardboard...{sob.} but. it. rained.
aargh. so serendipitious that you fulfilled my big box obsession of last week! xoxo...
{and m? love her little profile. perfection.}
Oh I love it! I can't wait for our next big delivery so we can do this. We did some playing this weekend, too - we made do with a blanket draped over some baby gates. My son was so excited to crawl inside and "hide"! Many many giggles.
"painting and chatting and stuff" -- soooo cute.
My son did the exact same thing to his arm! We scrubbed and scrubbed, but it didn't come off in time for church on Sunday. Ah well. :)
hilarious! the last two bullet points I mean. The rest is gorgeous. Also, I am super jealous that you are wearing thongs (aka flip flops) in autumn (aka fall).
i love your fort!! how much fun. and incidentally lily's arm is similarly festooned (it STILL hasn't washed off) with black spiders from a black spider stamp she swiped from her brother's class party treat bag Friday afternoon. The now black blobs look just like Audrey's :) Ah, 5 year olds...
lynne -- lily and audrey are complete and total kindred spirits...
darn those black rubber stamps.
Oh that rock star thing is adorable!!! I love it, and now she has a cute pink castle too, shes JEM!!!
