And I think (based on everything I’ve read) it basically boils down to having a few things I love and wearing the heck out of them… Quality over quantity if you will, rather than loads of impulse buys from Target or Forever 21 that I never wear, which sadly is often my M.O.
The stack of clothes I haven’t worn in a year is large, so to keep things manageable, once a week I’m putting a few more things on eBay. Take a peek at what’s out there now and see if there’s something you can’t live without.
I’m also selling a few non-clothing items…
Happy Friday friends!

I always try to do quality over quantity, but it's so hard! I've compromised by aiming for quality classic pieces (pencil skirts, pants, jackets)and cheaper trendy items like cute shirts and sun dresses.
Those spice jars are absolutely adorable!
I agree, buying less things and using them in creative, personal and stylish ways!
I just recently made a pact with myself to only buy good quality clothes... rather than my usual "oh! I have $20 extra this month, I'm going to target!" I have yet to save enough $20's to buy a quality item... and target is calling my name. quality over quantity... quality over quantity...
It is hard! REALLY hard sometimes! I'm really particular about certain things though. Shoes for instance. And sweaters :) Gotta love how good you feel after "purging" the closet!
We are on the same page again Joslyn...guess who just took pictures yesterday afternoon for this very same purpose? I'll probably get the auctions up next week...
After being in France again I came to the same realization...I need to buy quality goods. I realize I need to be more discriminating. I am going to start thinking about every purchase for a day to avoid impulsive shopping decisions.
I love that woman's outfit. Wow. Easy pieces she can wear over and over!
One more thing...if you ever go to France, check out Comptoir des Cotonniers. They have their own boutiques as well as a collection at Galleries Lafayette in Paris. Once the Euro drops a little more, I think you'll find them surprisingly affordable and chic. I'm a fan.
Stephanie,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm dying to copy you and decamp to Paris with my family for a few months...maybe one day!
I don't know what it is about French women, but they manage to make even the most simple pieces look exquisite. and I don't think it's something in the water, because I've tried drinking Evian and i still can't pull off outfits that chic ;)
I love going to the thrift store.
quality doesn't have to be expensive.
et moi aussi j'adore "une fille comme moi"
mais c'est clair que pas tous les filles franciases sont chic...
Totally understand about wanting the wardrobe of a French Woman. Toally agree with the impulse buys which sometimes even end up being kept for ages with tags still on :) Classic chic goes a long way
i resist being the queen of last-minute spur buys...because i only go for black, anyway! you know?
it's just all about good lines, a few choice pieces, great shoes...and confidence.
easier said than done, yes?
I completely agree!
I struggle w/ the quality over quantity thing too. I working on it, but its hard. I dream of having that French flair, they always look so great and effortless.
i did not realize i was being french! about a year ago i adopted the quality over quantity theory. of course i still buy many of the basics at target. it has helped me let go of trends and wear only what will last in the long run. it definetely has worked for me.
that blazer is absolutely lovely-especially when paired with those jeans and heels! effortless glamor really. and i am the same as you when it comes to buying things by the masses...i'm trying very hard to save up for more special but timeless pieces!
I adopted this policy a few years ago and haven't looked back. All of my clothes fit into a small armoire and I love ever piece I have.
Since I work in the beauty and fashion industry, it is sometimes hard to resist all the goodies. But I've honed the "what-will-work-on-my-body" skills and it has paid off.
Yes, yes! Such a good reminder....thank you! Quality over quantity!

Hooray! You've inspired me to do more weeding. Makes it easier to get dressed in the morning if you know everything in your closet looks good on you.
I think the other thing about the wardrobe of a French Woman is that they get everything tailored to fit so you don't have to search for something that you love AND fits well, you just find something you love and get it to fit! They're smart I think!
