We literally can't have enough cherries in our household lately.
Obsessed with our newly acquired (and highly addictive) cherry pitter, we're eating them by the bowlful (which is seriously cutting into the girl's college fund -- cherries are expensive...)
Audrey is fiercely protective of the cherries; she fears that once we finish our current supply, we'll never get to buy cherries again. (Ok, maybe I said something to that effect, per my above college fund comment.)
Case in point -- a few days ago, she stormed into the kitchen after school, tore open the refrigerator door and whipped around with her fierce little eyes trained directly on me, roaring, "I knew it, you ate all the cherries!!!"
Guilty.

This is so funny. OK, THAT'S what I need: a cherry pitter!
there's such an invention?! oh, i've been away too long...
and there's nothing quite like the disdain of a four-year old, is there? didn't you just feel like a pig?!
i loved this one so much.
You're in trouble now Joslyn!

Oh, if you love cherries you should plan a vacation to Michigan! The National Cherry Festival happens in Traverse City every summer (this year I think it's July 5 - July 12). I have a lot of family in the Traverse City area and when I was a kid, my uncle used to go to the cherry farms after the harvest and ask if he could pick the left over cherries (there are usually plenty of leftovers because of the way they harvest the cherries)and every summer he would bring over huge gallon buckets of free cherries that everyone would eat until we couldn't possibily look at even one more cherry.
That reminds me so much of this tiny poem by William Carlos Williams:
This is just to say
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast.
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold.
ciara -- love. that. poem.
perfect.
