I was reading the January issue of Costco Connection magazine this weekend and they reviewed the 2007 issues. They asked Readers in July if the US should ban plastic shopping bags? 40% said yes, 60% said NO. I was dumbfounded...I wish the US imposed a cost on plastic bags like other countries do. Then that poll would be inverted!

i have one of those french woven shoppers, you know with the leather shoulder straps and it is perfect for grocery shopping, love it. i like these ones too, pretty colours.
In ireland we introduced a levy on plastic bags over 2 years ago people use cloth bags in the supermarkets all the time it has been increidbly successful. I do love the pink colour of these bags. It would make a major difference to the environment if the us followed suit.
i actually thought this was already across the world - I assumed since Australia, France and Holland (and as Inge said Ireland too) had it then the US must already, mais non?
wow, hop to it america! if only so that joslyn can buy those purple bags. from memory in australia it became more of a 'trend' before the concept was totally introduced into the supermarkets and i do believe that really helped as nobody wanted to be looked down upon for asking for plastic bags. maybe we can help make it 'the trend' in the states! jo did mention a revolution. don't underestimate the power of the blogger!
I have a set of baggus I use for my shopping & I love them. Some of the grocery store employees are a bit irritating about it when I tell them I don't want their bags, but that's too bad for them. (Oh, and some try to bag it in their bag & then put it in mine which is just mind boggling to me. haha)

I agree Suse! The last time I was at IKEA they were charging 5 cents per bag...brilliant

yes, it's great to bring your own bags or just shove whatever you buy into your purse, if it fits. we will start a revolution:)

Pia Jane...unfortunately no...we are not so progressive when it's comes to being green. But i have high hopes this will change soon!
