I realize that these shoes fall into that particular category that I seem inexplicably drawn to...you know, the one that refuses to consider practicality at all, the very same one that lead me on the "great white coat quest of fall 07" despite the fact that I have a baby who's apparently vying to be some sort of world record holder in spitting up and a four-year old who loves pomegranate juice more than almost anything else in the free world.
But I just can't help it...these little obsessions fuel my belief that there's a part of me that's still free-wheeling and pulled together and just a teensy, tiny bit glam.
For me, these shoes represent going out, you know "date night" (which sadly we really never do.) They aren't work appropriate or practical for week-end errand running, play date attending, etc... which makes them all the more perfect for a totally grown-up dinner out with Bryan at a restaurant that doesn't have highchairs, crayons or any other hallmarks of kid-friendliness.
I will probably never actually purchase these lovelies, but in the spirit of our renewed commitment to date night in 2008, I've hung a picture of them on my inspiration board... It's the next best thing I suppose.
*And now for the update
I did end up getting a white coat. I came across this number majorly on sale before the holidays and snapped it up for the pretty printed lining and groovy big buttons. It was the best of both worlds, with some of the quality and styling of this one but a price much closer to this one.
And I am proud to say it has stayed (relatively) clean. So far...

love it! good choice...
funny how perspectives can be so different. being a single gal with no cute kiddies to chase after, i think the shoes would be a lovely pair for a spring lunch with girlfriends and maybe even a quick jaunt to the mall (emphasis on quick). the lower heel is key.
as for the coat, congrats! i have the same one in green and i love it. although, now i really seem to want a white one...
you have style girl! my sentiments exactly with the shoes, and i don't even have kids yet. i'm such a practical girl it kills me (i get all the whimsy out in my work!). and as for that jacket, wow, that is a perfect choice. can i say that if you ever get sick of an item in your wardrobe, I will be your 'salvation army'.
Thanks Pia Jane...i might even be blushing a little
whatever, just give me the coat.
hehehehehe xx
pia jane...i'll make a deal with you...if you're ever in Dallas, it's yours ;-) and of course you're also welcome to use the little woodshop.
do we get to see the pretty printed lining?
Love the coat!
Your so Brave!!! Very Brave. I'm chicken and in NY it would get grey in a NY second!
ok you are ON girlfriend! i have never been to dallas, hmm, i wonder when the next flight will be...
PS dana, you crack me up with your grey in a NY second!
Great coat! Are those buttons made of the same fabric as the coat? I can't tell, it would be cool if they are, you got yourself some good taste there missy.
thanks Michelle! the buttons are actually plastic with a little metal on the inside to hold the thread. I'll try and post a pic of the lining later today...it's really the best part!
soooo cute! i love it! and you can always use a Tide pen if you spill anything....i know a guy who wears white suits all the time and he swears by the Tide pen :) xoxo
Joslyn, those shoes are sex on a stick. You must buy them.
For comparison's sake, I was contemplating these earlier this week. Tell me why I need those, huh?
Joanna -- I've gotta see this guy that wears white suits all the time. He must be seriously dapper!
Mamacita -- you're bad ;-)…but those shoes are incredible. Awesome.
i have been going through the same dilemma. i really want a white coat and now it is so on sale at j.crew. it's good to know that it was not just me. thanks.
